This weekend I was given the rewarding opportunity to hear and meet one of the top 15 leadership experts in the country, Dr. Sam Chand. What an absolutely amazing time of growth. Dr. Chand is a former pastor, college president and chancellor, who now serves as president emeritus of Beulah Heights University.
I had always heard that SUCCESS HAPPENS when OPPORTUNITY and PREPAREDNESS meet. Dr. Chand re-iterated that in his message this weekend.
He taught us how to go from STUCK to UNSTUCK, from NEUTRAL to DRIVE, from REVERSE to FORWARD! “Growth is a CHOICE and if we don’t GROW we got to GO”, said Dr. Chand
Here are 5 qualities he shared that we can all benefit from:
1. STRONG – Be able to handle instruction and correction.
2. ATTENTIVE – Learn Quickly
3. FAITHFUL - Keep going
4. FIRM – Stand for what is right
5. LOYAL – You can disagree with my head but not my heart.
So how do you possess these qualities? “BE PREPARED”, says Dr. Chand. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord, Joshua 24:15. Make a decision in advance as to how you will live and don’t waiver. Dr. Chand also says, “Have a PDP, Personal Development Plan”, and “ask yourself the real estate question; What’s my highest and best use?” “Where is it that it just comes out of me?” “Where do I shine?” And do that!
Why should we concern ourselves with growth? One word Dr. Chand shared that I will share with you, LEGACY!
As I ponder on this I come to the realization that life truly is not about me. It is about Jesus, and it is about the life that he died to give to people. But not just life, ABUNDANT LIFE! If we are going to live life abundantly we need to GROW. One of the most impactful things that Dr. Chand shared is so simple yet so profound…”There is NO neutral”. We are either going forward or backward, in drive or reverse, or we are growing or dying. I choose to GROW! Why? LEGACY.
There is a difference between LEGACY and INHERITANCE, says Dr. Chand. Inheritance is stuff you leave behind that can be purchased; while LEGACY can’t be bought because it is people and people go on.
My conclusion is this…Who is my protegé? Am I growing enough to leave an impact on the life of another, who in turn, can leave an impact on someone else. That’s IMPACT! That’s JESUS! That’s LEGACY!
I made a decision this weekend; NO MORE NEUTRAL! I will GROW so I can make an IMPACT, like JESUS, and leave a LEGACY!
